Podcast Script: Browns @ Ravens Quick Take

Browns @ Ravens Quick Take.

The Baltimore Ravens opened their 2013 home schedule against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium.  Before kickoff, the Ravens 2012 Super Bowl championship banner was unveiled.

Despite a lackluster performance by the offense, the Ravens were able to secure the win 14-6 thanks in part to a dominate performance by the Ravens’ defense.  After surrendering a franchise record 49 points to Peyton Manning and the Broncos in the Week 1 opener, the Ravens defense redeemed themselves in Week 2 by holding the Browns out of the endzone and allowing only 259 yards of total offense.

3 take away's from Sunday's game:

  1. Passing offense still struggling.  Joe Flacco and the Ravens’ offense are still trying to replace Anquan Boldin (traded to San Francisco in the offseason) and Dennis Pitta (out with injury).  With Flacco’s two primary receiving weapons from last year gone, Flacco has yet to establish chemistry with the remaining WRs and appears to lack a target he trusts in critical situations.  Torrey Smith and undrafted rookie Marlon Brown have provided some spark to the passing game, as has free agent acquisition and ageless wonder Brandon Stokley, but the passing attack continues to struggle.  Flacco finished the day 22 of 33 for 211 yards and 1 touchdown; good for a passer rating of 94.4.
  2. Injuries.  The injury bug continues to hurt the Ravens early in the 2013 season.  All-purpose running back and offensive MVP Ray Rice went down early in the 4th quarter with what was later diagnosed as a hip flexor strain.  The Ravens are optimistic Rice will be ready for Week 3 against the Houston Texans.  Capable backup Bernard Pierce will get the start against the Texans if Rice is unable to go.  Other injuries of note: defensive lineman Chris Canty suffered a strained groin and defensive back Chykie Brown suffered a strained knee.  Both are scheduled for MRIs on Monday to determine the extent of the damage.
  3. Defense of old.  The Ravens defense returned to their dominate selves against the Browns, holding the Browns to only 259 yards of total offense and 6 total points.  The Ravens pass rush produced 5 sacks and 11 QB hits.  Pass rushing tandem Terrell Suggs and Elvis Dumervil combined for 2 sacks while middle linebacker Daryl Smith led the team with 11 total tackles and 1.5 sacks on the day.

With the Ravens’ win, they move to 1-1 during the young season and will find themselves tied for 1st place in the AFC North heading into Week 3 action.

Tips for Blog Design

Blog tip #1: Blog design tip: utilize a color scheme that is easy on your reader's eyes.  Bright pink font on a white background is hard to read!

Blog tip #2: Blog design tip: select a theme that makes sense with your blog topic. When in doubt, select a theme that is simplistic and uncluttered.
